Lucy Boynton and newcomer Rahne Jones have also joined the Netflix hourlong comedy starring Ben Platt, Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Ryan Murphy is not wasting any time getting to work for Netflix.

The prolific producer is rounding out the cast for The Politician, with Zoey Deutch (Netflix’s Set It Up), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Laura Dreyfuss (Dear Evan Hansen) and Rahne Jones joining Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow the upcoming hourlong comedy starring Ben Platt that landed at the streaming giant with a two-season order. The four will also be series regulars.

The Politician, from Murphy and frequent collaborator Brad Falchuk, revolves around Platt’s Payton, a wealthy Santa Barbara resident. Each season will center on a different political race that the character is involved in. Platt is expected to have musical numbers in the show. Production is expected to start in late summer.

Details about Deutch, Boynton, Dreyfuss and Jones’ roles are being kept under wraps.
Deutch boards the series after her breakout role in Netflix feature Set It Up. Her credits also include Everbody Wants Some, The Year of Spectacular Men and Flower. She’s repped by CAA.

Boynton will next be seen opposite Rami Malek in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Her credits include Netflix drama Gypsy and Murder on the Orient Express. She’s repped by CAA.

Dreyfuss will reteam with Murphy and Falchuk following her role on Glee. The Politician will reunite Dreyfuss with her Dear Evan Hansen star Platt. She left her role on the Broadway production on Sunday. She’s repped by Authentic Talent and Literary Management, Stone Manners and Jackoway Tyerman.

Newcomer Jones counts a production of Godspell as well as print and online ad campaigns for fashion and art brands. The Politician marks her TV debut.

Murphy will serve as writer, showrunner and exec producer on The Politician. Falchuk and Glee collaborator Ian Brennan will serve as writers and exec producers on the series from Fox 21 Television Studios. The drama will premiere globally on Netflix.
